"Little girls have a magic all their own."
Three days of pouring, cold rain over Christmas offered the WizWog family plenty of time to stay snuggled up in our Christmas quilt reading and napping. Forecast for the next day was clear for our session in San Diego's historic Balboa Park.
Not so fast, weather watchers! True, no rain. But icy gale-force winds, gusting up to 30 mph - cause our first-ever weather re-schedule. Gotta love the predictably unpredictable California weather - and everyone working together to make our session happen.
How lucky are we - three little girlies who are enchanting to play with ... er, work with - LOL. At first a bit shy, we warmed up to each other quickly, and it isn't long at all before we are singing, holding hands, skipping, dancing and laughing (mostly at Wizzy's bad singing).
Asking our smaller clients to help us choose pose locations helps them feel part of the process. Oldest sister C's first choice was here, perched at the base of this elaborate concrete pillar in the organ pavilion while we sing"Twinkle, Twinkle" together.
This little cutie was so helpful with her younger sibs, so patient and kind. This was her own pose spot. Lovin' the little personality sparkle in her eye.
Second sister, Miss C, was the most shy. But we try hard to respect our kids' sensitivities. And soon she and Wizzy were hand-holding buddies.
Our cameras loved this be-ribboned cutie, the youngest Miss K, with her gorgeous deep amber eyes, charming freckles and infectious personality. And of course, always a sentimental Wizzy favorite - naturally curly red hair.
With an abundance of flora, fauna, elaborate architecture and winding paths, we could shoot at Balboa Park a hundred times and never have any two sessions look alike. As history lovers, we especially appreciate the magnificent ornamental Spanish Colonial Revival buildings housing many of the museums along Balboa Park's Prado. But our sweet B family outshines any architecture.
Special recognition to daddy Matt as one of the most loving, gentle and good-natured daddies we've worked with. He obviously adores his girls, and they him. And yes, he's already planning a male-only backyard getaway location for the inevitable group estrogen surge in the not-too-distant future - LOL!
As children of photographer mom Jeni, when we approach this bridge overpass, the girls announce they know what we're going to ask them to do: "We start here and walk toward you. Then we turn around and walk the other way." LOL - they are so right. As the victim, er, participant in photography the longest, and reading my mind, oldest sis Miss C offers, "Do you want us to hold hands?"
These sweet girlies are totally patient with being photographed, knowing we are going to explore the gardens on the other side of the bridge.
By the way, special kudos to mom Jeni for her outstanding outfit coordination. No matching uniforms here. Using neutral blue jeans and warm autumn browns as a base, then color-punched and fabulously textured with tops and accessories in shades of orange and pink. (she even knitted the littlest sister's scarf). Stunning!
At the north end of the Prado we sight what 3-year-old K dubs The Water Mountain - LOL.
At the end of our session, C the Elder reminds us that we've promised she can take our picture together in our time-honored tradition. It is with special recognition of her posing composition ("Can you go stand behind the wall?") and photographic excellence that we post an additional individual portrait to sweet Miss C.
